Fatima Zahra El Mansouri named as Morocco's first female prime minister

Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, a lawyer and long-time mayor of Marrakech, was appointed Morocco's first female prime minister following her party, the centrist Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), winning the most seats in last week's parliamentary elections. Her appointment makes her the second woman to lead a government in the Arab world, after Tunisia's Najla Bouden. Named by King Mohammed VI, she previously served as a minister and as mayor, and became PAM's coalition coordinator in February 2024.
