Fawehinmi fought to keep Nigeria’s political space open — Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani praised the significant contributions of late human rights lawyer Gani Fawehinmi to Nigeria's democracy during a book presentation. Fawehinmi led a legal battle against stringent conditions imposed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political associations seeking registration. His efforts resulted in a Court of Appeal judgment in 2002 and a Supreme Court ruling in 2003 that opened Nigeria's political space, allowing for the emergence of new political parties.
