FBI arrests ‘Chinese foreign agent’ for spying on Taiwan president’s son

The FBI arrested Wanying Zhang, also known as Heather, at Los Angeles International Airport, accusing her of spying for China and surveilling the son of Taiwanese President William Lai Ching-te. Zhang, 34, from Irvine, California, was detained before her planned departure to China and charged with acting as an unregistered foreign agent. She reportedly sent photos, videos, and license plate information of the Taiwanese leader’s son to China after traveling to Seattle in 2025 at the behest of Chinese officials. Zhang is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles federal court on Monday.
