FCC Democrat warns broadcasters to resist Trump’s media pressure tactics

Anna Gomez, the Federal Communications Commission’s sole Democratic member, urged the National Association of Broadcasters to strengthen its response to pressure from the Trump administration on major news networks and TV stations ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Gomez pointed to FCC Chair Brendan Carr’s claim that airing “entirely fake polls” could violate broadcasters’ regulatory obligations. The FCC did not answer Al Jazeera’s request to identify the broadcasters or polls Carr was referring to.
