Femi Fani-Kayode disowns purported Senior Counsel of Nigeria title

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, says he neither authorised nor personally accepted the Senior Counsel of Nigeria (SCN), or Blue Silk, designation purportedly conferred on him by the Nigerian Law Society. In a statement issued on November 6 by his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji, he said staff attended the event after his office was invited, but their presence did not constitute his personal endorsement. He described the episode as a regrettable administrative misjudgment and raised concerns about professional titles conferred outside the established legal framework. A legal practitioner for more than 41 years, he reaffirmed his commitment to the law, professional ethics and the integrity of the legal profession.
