FG Begins Clearing Power Equipment Stranded Since 2014

Nigeria’s Ministry of Power has secured the release of the first 44 containers of electricity equipment at Apapa Port in Lagos, out of more than 300 awaiting clearance, some since 2014. Minister Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe said the move followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive and the resolution of administrative and financial obstacles, including outstanding port charges. Technical experts will assess the equipment: serviceable items will go to electricity projects, while unusable items will be disposed of appropriately. The initiative follows the NDPHC’s recovery of 110 containers and 216 packages, reportedly saving more than ₦30 billion and recovering turbines associated with about 470 MW of generation capacity.
