The Federal Ministry of Education has approved an increase in registration fees for WAEC and NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) to N50,000 per candidate starting in 2027. The hike has drawn criticism from the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), who describe it as further punishment on struggling parents. Fees rise from N30,000 (NECO) and N27,000 (WAEC) to the new uniform amount. A ministry memo dated June 18, 2026, conveyed the approval to the NECO registrar.
