FG suspends NSCDC Commandant over miners' deaths in custody

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Niger State Commandant of the NSCDC, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, following the alleged deaths of illegal miners in custody. The incident occurred during enforcement operations on September 15 and 16, 2026. A full-scale investigation has been ordered to examine the circumstances surrounding these deaths, and a new commandant has been appointed to take over in Niger State.
