FIFA: Infantino says he has backing of ‘vast majority’ in re-election bid

Gianni Infantino says he has the backing of the “vast, vast majority” of FIFA member associations as he seeks a fourth term, with the election scheduled for March. The Asian Football Confederation endorsed him on Friday, and Infantino said African countries had also backed him. He had faced fierce criticism over his failed plan to sell private investors part of the commercial rights to FIFA competitions and apologised for the project last week. No challenger has announced a candidacy, and the deadline to do so is November 18.
