Fight Against Suicide: Alarming Figures, An Observatory Soon to Be Created for Better Prevention

Ivory Coast is establishing a Suicide Observatory to centralize data and guide prevention policies. Between 2019 and 2021, 418 suicides and 927 attempts were recorded, with a mortality rate estimated at 23 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year. Dr. Joyce Dohou, director of URCCI, emphasizes the need for reliable data to inform public decisions. The initiative also aims to raise awareness among the population about mental health and suicide prevention.
