The Finance Bill 2026 proposes to shorten the tax filing deadline to April 30, replacing the current June 30 deadline. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi submitted this bill, which amends Section 52 of the Income Tax Act. If adopted, income returns, including nil returns, will need to be filed within one month after the end of the fiscal year. The bill will be opened for public participation in May and is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
