Fire at nursing home in Chile kills 16 elderly residents

A fire at a nursing home in Pitrufquen, Araucania region, has killed 16 elderly residents and left others injured. Twenty-six people were inside when the fire broke out, with ten surviving. The municipality had previously reported regulatory compliance issues with the facility, which had been subject to administrative proceedings since 2019. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and an investigation is underway.
