Fire Destroys Shops at Popular Garissa Market

A nighttime fire on October 28 destroyed several shops at Suuq Mugdi Market in Garissa, Kenya. The blaze swept through part of the market before morning as traders tried to salvage their goods; water trucks and fire engines were sent to contain it. Authorities had yet to determine the cause, the full extent of the damage or the value of the losses. The market was previously hit by a major fire in June 2025.
