Firm’s bid to evade Epra checks over SEZ ‘immunity’ fails

A special economic zone (SEZ)-based firm, Compact Inland Logistics, has lost its bid to block scrutiny by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra). The court ruled that SEZ status does not shield such firms from compliance with Kenyan law. Compact also argued that Epra lacked jurisdiction over its activities, but the court referred the matter to the Energy and Petroleum Tribunal, stating that entities operating within SEZs are subject to Kenyan regulations.
