Five soldiers, three CJTF members killed as troops foil terrorist attack on military base in Borno

The Nigerian military repelled a terrorist attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Borno State in the early hours of June 5, 2026. The assault, launched under heavy rainfall around 3:00 a.m., was thwarted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI, who killed several insurgents. Five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed in the firefight. Wounded personnel were airlifted and are in stable condition, while the base remains under military control and additional troops have been deployed.
