Fizi: clashes intensify in Rugezi and Gipimo

Since September 27, 2026, violent clashes have erupted in the villages of Rugezi, Gipimo, and Kuwihene in Fizi territory, South Kivu. The government coalition, including FARDC, Wazalendo, and Burundian forces, has intensified attacks in these areas, with reports of a drone being shot down in Rugezi. Fighting has spread to several villages in Fizi and Mwenga territories, worsening insecurity in the region.
