Fizi: Schools in Mulima remain closed nearly a month after the start of the school year

Nearly a month after the start of the 2026-2027 school year, schools in Mulima, South Kivu, remain closed due to ongoing security deterioration. Over five primary schools, including Gulumbe, Avenir, Abala, Kunguli, and Mahembe, are affected, depriving many children, including displaced persons, of education. Clashes in Mulima and Kanguli have intensified, with some schools used as displacement centers and no humanitarian aid received since May 2026. Since September 7, fighting between the Twirwaheno/AFC/M23 coalition and the FARDC has severely disrupted the school reopening.
