Flood kills two, ravages 18 communities in Nasarawa

Two people have died and flooding has ravaged 18 communities in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Information Commissioner Nawani Aboki said an on-the-spot assessment identified seven additional affected communities beyond the 11 initially reported, where more than 5,000 people had been displaced. Governor Abdullahi Sule directed NASEMA to assess the affected areas as the state mobilises relief supplies and warns that further releases from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam could worsen flooding. Displaced residents have been urged not to return home, and people in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground.

Discussions include the goal of protecting 30% of the world’s land and seas by 2030 and calls for Indigenous peoples, local communities, women, young people, cities, businesses and financial institutions to contribute more to conservation.
