Foden shines as Man City rout Athens 5-1 despite Haaland and Semenyo injuries

Phil Foden scored a hat-trick as Manchester City beat AEK Athens 5-1 in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on October 20. Manager Enzo Maresca said the performance could signal an end to the England midfielder’s prolonged slump; Foden had scored his first goal in 10 months in Saturday’s win over Ipswich. With Antoine Semenyo sidelined for eight weeks and Erling Haaland on the bench, Foden played on the left wing before moving into the false-nine role. His hat-trick could catch England manager Thomas Tuchel’s eye ahead of November’s Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.
