Food imports: bill drops by 11 billion CFA francs in the first quarter of 2026 compared to last year

Cameroon has reduced the value of its food imports by 11 billion CFA francs, from 65 billion to 54 billion CFA francs. The decline is mainly due to rice, thanks to the expansion of cultivated areas since 2024 and the increase in customs duties. Customs duties have been increased by 5% for ordinary rice and 20% for luxury rice categories.
