Food, Transport Among Items Whose Prices Have Spiked as Inflation Hits 6.8%

Kenya’s annual inflation rate rose to 6.8% in September 2026 from 6.6% in August, driven mainly by higher food and transport costs. Prices for food items such as long-life milk, cabbage, and wheat flour increased, while tomatoes, maize flour, and sugar decreased. Household energy costs fell slightly, with reductions in electricity and LPG prices, and local transport fares declined by 1-1.3%, whereas international airfares increased by 8.1%.
