Football world pays tribute to Tenerife’s Jesus de Miguel

Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, 30, died on Tuesday after a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish second-division match. Owono’s knee appeared to strike de Miguel in the chest; after receiving treatment on the field, de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to hospital. Tenerife announced six days of mourning and suspended club activities; his funeral will be held in Navahermosa, Toledo, with a tribute planned at Heliodoro Stadium on Saturday. The Spanish federation suspended domestic matches until November 6, while UEFA announced a minute of silence at Champions League games this week.
