Forced birth control in Greenland violated women’s rights, experts find

Greenland is establishing a truth and reconciliation commission regarding a decades-long forced contraceptive scheme affecting Indigenous girls and women. From the 1960s to the 1990s, at least 4,000 Greenlandic Inuits received intrauterine devices or contraceptive injections, often without their consent. A joint Danish-Greenlandic inquiry found that this practice aimed to reduce birth rates, leading to serious medical complications for some victims.
