Former DR Congo President Joseph Kabila Seizes Kalonge and Bitale in South Kivu

The rebel coalition Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), led by former Congolese president Joseph Kabila, took control of Kalonge and Bitale in Kalehe territory, South Kivu, following renewed clashes. Fighters were reported in Bitale after advancing through Masanganjiya and in Fendula, Kalonge, where they had been present since about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Government forces and Wazalendo fighters reportedly withdrew toward Myowe, while troops remained in Bulambika. Launched on October 12, 2026, the FRN brings together groups previously united in the Congo River Alliance, including M23.
