Former rebel turned government ally proposes a path to peace for Sudan

Former rebel Malik Agar Ayyir, now deputy chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, proposes restoring the state's monopoly on arms and dissolving non-state armed groups. The plan aims to resolve disputes over the Sudanese Armed Forces, the RSF paramilitary, international involvement, and governance. It builds on the 2020 peace deal. Since April 2023, fighting has killed thousands and displaced 14 million.
