William Troost-Ekong, former captain of Nigeria's Super Eagles, converted to Islam by reciting the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar. The 33-year-old defender, who plays for Al-Ahli in Qatar, shared his conversion via a Facebook video, confirmed by the Qatari newspaper Al-Arab. He began his career in the Arab region in 2024 with Saudi club Al-Khaleej and joined Al-Ahli in January 2026 on an 18-month contract. He represented Nigeria from 2015 to 2025, earning 83 caps and scoring 8 goals, and was part of the team that reached the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.
