Formula 1: Rwanda brings F1 back to Africa after 33 years absence

After more than three decades, Formula 1 is set to return to Africa through Rwanda, with a ten-year agreement to host a Grand Prix on a new circuit in Bugesera, near Kigali. The circuit will be built close to the upcoming international airport and must meet FIA standards, though the exact date of the race has not been decided. Rwandan President Paul Kagame sees this project as a way to enhance the country's international profile, boost tourism, attract investments, and create jobs. The FIA and Stefano Domenicali, F1 CEO, welcomed the agreement, which allows the world championship to be held on all inhabited continents. South Africa was the last African country to host a race in 1993 at Kyalami, and Rwanda now leads in the race to organize an African Grand Prix.
