Oil tanker hijacked off coast of Yemen and taken towards Somalia

Somali pirates have hijacked the oil tanker MT Eureka off the coast of Yemen, according to Somali security officials. The Togolese-flagged tanker was attacked at 5:00 AM local time and is now heading towards Somali waters. This incident marks the second hijacking of an oil tanker in the area within ten days, following the hijacking of Honor 25 on April 22, which was carrying 18,500 barrels of oil. Somali piracy, which had been declining since 2011, has surged again since late 2023.
