Four killed as Indonesia battles worst forest fires in more than a decade

Four people tackling a wildfire in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java were killed on Thursday, Indonesia’s Forestry Ministry said. Two others suffered serious burns and are receiving medical treatment. The fires, the country’s worst in more than a decade, have spread haze to neighbouring countries, with Sumatra and Borneo the hardest-hit islands. The ministry detected 799 high-confidence hotspots nationwide by Thursday night, and President Prabowo Subianto approved accepting help from neighbouring countries.
