France: 14 people on trial for the death of 31 migrants in the English Channel

Fourteen people are on trial in France for the deadliest shipwreck recorded in the English Channel, which occurred on November 24, 2021, resulting in the deaths of 31 migrants, including a seven-year-old child. The two sole survivors testified that their inflatable boat began to deflate after several hours at sea, causing passengers to fall into the water. Most of the victims were Iraqi Kurds, along with Afghans, Ethiopians, and Egyptians. The trial involves 114 civil parties, including families of the victims who traveled from Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan.
