Bernadette Chirac, former First Lady of France and widow of ex-President Jacques Chirac, died on June 5, 2026 at age 93, announced by her daughter Claude. She was the only French First Lady to hold elective office, serving as a general councilor of Corrèze from 1979 to 2015. She also chaired the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France and led the Pièces Jaunes charity campaign for nearly 25 years. Since Jacques Chirac's death in 2019, she had withdrawn from public life.
