The National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) has opened a preliminary investigation against former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin for 'concealment of embezzlement of public funds' regarding two Napoleon statues received between 2002 and 2004. According to Robert Bourgi, one statue was financed by Blaise Compaoré and the other by Gian Angelo Perrucci, totaling 125,000 euros. Villepin admitted to accepting these gifts, calling it an 'error,' but denied any illegal intent. The investigation aims to determine if the items came from improperly used funds.
