France: Michel Zecler still “angry” six years after being assaulted by police

French music producer Michel Zecler remains angry and affected by the violence inflicted on him by three police officers in Paris on November 21, 2020, during a check involving failure to wear a mask and alleged cannabis use. He says he cannot forget the hatred he saw and explains that the officers’ uniforms stopped him from defending himself, as police are supposed to represent order and proportionality. The three officers will appear on November 9 before the Paris Criminal Court, including on charges of intentional violence causing more than 45 days of total incapacity for work. A fourth officer will be tried separately for throwing a tear-gas grenade.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arraigned Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi on 22 counts of forgery and impersonation before the FCT High Court in Maitama. Prosecutors allege that Adeyemi forged documents purportedly signed by presidential Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to claim the appointment and secure offices, vehicles and other benefits. The ICPC says the alleged offences took place between 2024 and 2026; Adeyemi has been in detention since July 14.
