France: Students block access to the Louvre in support of high schoolers

Students from the École du Louvre, joined by students from the École des Beaux-Arts, blocked access to the museum on Monday morning, preventing it from opening normally at 9 a.m. In a leaflet, they called for the right to study, work and live freely in good conditions; the Louvre’s management said the action was independent of the institution. The CGT union supports the protest and expected the closure to last at least until noon. The blockade follows high school protests that began in mid-September and comes exactly one year after the Louvre was burgled on October 19, 2025.

The Diocese of Awka’s board rejected the suspension and threatened to join the Church of England. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the force was neutral and urged the public not to circulate claims that could inflame tensions.
