France: Suspect in Trappes Racist Attack Transferred to Psychiatric Unit

Kevin T., 39, suspected of opening fire in the Yvelines on Friday, was transferred to a police psychiatric unit after an examination on Saturday evening. The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office ordered about 48 hours of observation to determine whether he is fit to be questioned; a source close to the investigation said he may have schizophrenia, and traces of cocaine and cannabis were found in his blood. The shooting killed Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old Frenchman of Congolese origin, and injured five people, including a 12-year-old girl who remains in critical condition. Investigators found an automatic weapon and tear-gas grenades in his car, and a Bible, a Quran, and a copy of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” at his home; four relatives and associates were taken into custody.
