French authorities are tightening security to prevent a repeat of the violence and looting during last weekend’s protests, which drew more than 500,000 people. Paris has extended its nighttime curfew until Monday, while Marseille and Lyon have banned gatherings, imposed curfews and restricted public transport for Saturday. Police deployments are set to rise by 20 percent compared with last weekend. Despite restrictions announced by Emmanuel Macron, student union UNEF plans rallies on Saturday, and the Yellow Vest movement has filed plans for a march through central Paris.
