French Team: Fabien Barthez Expands Role Beyond Goalkeepers Under Zidane

Fabien Barthez, goalkeeper coach for the French national team since August 13, now also works with attackers and shares responsibilities on set pieces with assistant David Bettoni. He coaches players including Mike Maignan, Guillaume Restes, and Jean Butez at Clairefontaine, using a method focused on experience sharing. Zidane, hired for four years, entrusted him with these additional duties after France's 2026 World Cup exit in the semi-finals. Former World Cup winner in 1998, Barthez has previously served as a technical advisor and is now serving as the goalkeeper coach for the first time in his career.
