From Wasted Billions to National Rebirth: NBC Unveils Bold Plan to Rescue Nigerian Broadcasting

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) unveiled an ambitious plan to transform digital broadcasting in Nigeria after 17 years of unfulfilled promises and over ₦60 billion spent. The FreeTV project aims for 100% national coverage through a hybrid satellite and IP system, with no encryption, and includes regional production hubs to promote local content creation. The analogue switch-off date is set for December 31, 2028, with no extensions planned.
