FSNC Suspension: Monatélé Deputy Mayor Célestin Bedzigui Accuses MINAT of Reviving Colonial Methods and Appeals to Paul Biya

Célestin Bedzigui, president of the PAL and first deputy mayor of Monatélé, condemned the suspension of activities of the Front for the Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s party. In an opinion column, he called the Ministry of Territorial Administration’s decision an authoritarian regression and disputed its legality. He compared it with the French colonial administration’s ban on the UPC in 1955, while acknowledging that the circumstances and legal frameworks of the two decisions differ. Bedzigui said the suspension threatens political pluralism and freedoms gained when multiparty politics returned to Cameroon in 1990.
