The government announced that the 5p cut on fuel duty will be extended until the end of the year, instead of being phased out in September. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that this decision was due to rising oil and natural gas prices, exacerbated by the US-Israel war in Iran. Additionally, a cut in the fuel duty rate on red diesel and a 12-month holiday on vehicle excise duty for HGVs were also announced.
