Human rights lawyer Femi Falana stated that the expected savings from the removal of fuel subsidies have been wiped out by the devaluation of the naira and the government's neoliberal economic policies. He pointed out that when President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of the subsidy on May 29, 2023, no budget allocation had been made for it. Falana also questioned the whereabouts of the $10 billion that was supposed to be spent on fuel imports.
