Fuel Subsidy: TUC Awaits Plans from Atiku, Peter Obi and Others

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) is awaiting a detailed plan from Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and other politicians to lower fuel prices by supplying crude oil to local refineries. TUC President Festus Osifo wants clear projections showing how such proposals would affect public revenue and funding for wages, infrastructure, healthcare and other services. He warned that selling crude to refineries at reduced prices could cut foreign-exchange earnings and Federation Account remittances, recalling that NNPCL fuel subsidy payments previously left many states struggling to pay salaries. The TUC is open to proposals for a minimum wage of 500,000 or one million naira if candidates explain how they would fund them, and opposes cheaper fuel at the expense of workers’ pay and essential public services.
