Agriculture: AgriConnect aims to mobilize CFAF 1.12 trillion for eight value chains by 2030

Cameroon launched the AgriConnect pact in Yaoundé on October 21, 2026, with support from the World Bank Group to accelerate investment in eight agri-food value chains. For 2026–2030, the program sets out 24 interventions requiring about $1.87 billion, or nearly CFAF 1.12 trillion, according to IFAD. It aims in part to cut the food import bill by 28%, from $1.6 billion to $1.15 billion, while increasing domestic agricultural production, local processing and private investment. The targeted chains are maize, rice, cassava, palm oil, cocoa, soybeans, milk, and fisheries and aquaculture; 2030 targets include annual production of 6 million tonnes of maize and 800,000 tonnes of palm oil.

Dele Momodu accuses APC of using statistics to mislead Nigerians

Dele Momodu, media and communications deputy director-general for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign and a supporter of Atiku Abubakar, accused Bola Tinubu’s government of using economic statistics to mislead Nigerians. Speaking on Channels Television, he said the APC attacks the World Bank and The Economist when their assessments criticize Nigeria’s economic direction or borrowing. Momodu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the voters’ register, contrasting the APC’s claimed 12 million members with 103 million registered voters. He said politically unaffiliated voters—the “floaters party”—could influence the 2027 presidential election.

US Lobbying Firm Files FOIA Request to Reveal Tinubu’s $700 Billion Mining Deal

US political advisory and lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York says it filed a FOIA request with the US State Department on Thursday for the $700 billion mining memorandum of understanding signed by Nigeria and the United States, along with records of its negotiations. The firm says it acted because President Bola Tinubu has not disclosed the deal’s details and Nigerians are demanding transparency about their natural resources. It supports US access to critical minerals but says protections for affected communities are needed, and it plans to publish the documents if it receives them. Nigeria’s Presidency had not responded to the filing at the time of publication.
