Gambia: Washington returns 2.5 million dollars to victims of Jammeh

The U.S. justice system has returned 2,507,911.73 dollars to Gambia, corresponding to the sale of a Potomac villa acquired by Yahya Jammeh with embezzled funds. This money will be deposited into the Reparations Fund managed by the Reparations Commission, as per an agreement signed between Banjul and Washington. The property confiscation process, initiated in 2020, was ordered by a federal court in Maryland following corruption allegations against Jammeh. This transfer comes as Gambia continues to pay compensations to victims of the Jammeh regime.
