Gambian leader pledges halt to rolling blackouts as protests turn violent

Gambian President Adama Barrow announced that the country would boost energy supplies by next month to quell violent protests over prolonged power outages. Protesters blocked roads and demanded Barrow's resignation in Banjul and other cities. Barrow declared the outages a national emergency and plans to install a 24-megawatt generation machine by the end of October.
