Germany's government announced a compromise on its sugar-sweetened beverage tax, set to start in July 2027. The tax will be 26 cents per liter for drinks with at least five grams of sugar per 100 ml, rising to 32 cents for eight grams or more. It aims to fund health insurance stability and protect public health, especially children and adolescents. The tax applies to sodas, lemonades, iced teas, energy drinks, fruit nectars, and sweetened juice concentrates, excluding beer, non-alcoholic wine, and pure fruit or vegetable juices.
