Voters in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are heading to the polls today, as far-right gains threaten Chancellor Friedrich Merz's political standing. Following a major defeat of his CDU party by the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt, Merz's approval ratings have plummeted to around 14%. About 2.5 million people are eligible to vote in Berlin and nearly 1.3 million in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
