Germany’s Zverev Becomes Tennis World No. 1

Alexander Zverev defeated Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-5 on Thursday to reach the Vienna Open quarter-finals and secure his first spell at the top of the ATP rankings, which will be confirmed on Monday. Already assured of finishing the season No. 1, the 29-year-old German will replace Jannik Sinner, who ended his season because of a knee injury. After winning the French Open and US Open in 2026, Zverev will become the 30th man to reach No. 1 since the rankings began in 1973 and the second-oldest player to do so for the first time.
