Ghana Announces the Country's Most Powerful Gas Power Plant with a Capacity of 1,200 MW

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama announced that the country will sign an agreement before the end of 2026 to build a 1,200 MW fully public gas thermal power plant. This plant will surpass the Akosombo dam's 1,020 MW capacity by 180 MW. Peak energy demand has increased from 3,500 MW to 4,300 MW, with investments including $2 billion for new wells in the Jubilee field and $1.5 billion by Eni for the Sankofa field, which will supply these power plants and boost government revenues.
