Ghana: Bus travelling from Abidjan to Cotonou crashes, killing 8 and leaving 21 survivors

An Ivorian bus travelling from Abidjan to Cotonou collided with the rear of a stationary Burkinabè bus on the N1 Elubo-Takoradi highway at Azuletti, near Samenye, in western Ghana. The crash occurred on October 29, 2026, at about 7:26 p.m. Seven people died at the scene and an eighth later died in hospital; firefighters from Elubo rescued 21 passengers. Ghanaian authorities are investigating, including the possibility that the bus’s position on part of the road contributed to the crash.
